Back in the mid 80's, my best friend from high school, Bill and I were introduced to big band jazz in our high school band. We played in our high school big band jazz ensemble and started buying Vinyl Albums and Cassette Tapes. We made mix tapes of our music to play in the home stereo, car, boombox, and walkman (remember those?).
Bill even started and we both played in a big band for hire
before we graduted high school.
When we would play these tunes, we used to say, too bad we couldn't start a radio show or station called-what else, "The Big Band Jazz Review".
After collecting many albums, tapes, CD's, and buying many digital downloads, converting everything to digital, my fiance Julie and I said we need to find a way to share all this great music.
So The Big Band Jazz Review was created.
The Big Band Jazz Review isn’t a “typical” big band format station.
We don’t play any of those hokey, thin sounding, or typically unknown tunes
from the Big Band Era to fill our song library.
The Big Band Jazz Review plays big band jazz from the 1930's through today in many styles from swing, classic big band favorites, blues, latin, disco, rock and pop hits arranged for big band. We also play contemporary big band jazz tunes including big band sounds from movies and television shows.
What can you expect to hear on our station?
Great tunes from the classics like Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw to Stan Kenton, Billy May, Bert Kaempfert, Henry Mancini to Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, Count Basie, Doc Severinson and The Tonight Show Band, Maynard Ferguson, and more modern big bands
like The BBC Big Band and The SWR Big Band.
We hope you enjoy our webpage and our station. We think we have a
unique library of music for your enjoyment.
